Hebrews 13:8

Hebrews 13:8

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.”

What a calming promise!!!!!  We tend to over complicate things and the multi-billion choices and decisions we make each day can certainly add to that complication.  How many times a day do we change our minds, our plans, or even the direction we want our day to go?  In this ever-changing world it is so comforting and calming to know that Jesus does not change.  He does not and will not change His mind, His plan for our lives or even the direction He has intended for our lives to go.    ~ ~ ~ Thank you, Lord!

Do you remember Kung Fu Panda?  Remember Master Oogway and his inspiring words to Po?

“Yesterday is history,

tomorrow is a mystery,

and today is a gift, that is why they call it present.”

Yesterday is history

All the choices, decisions, and mistakes we made are gone. You cannot change them, cannot redo them, cannot take them back, but you can learn from them.  Look back on the choice or mistake and find where to adjust so that you are better prepared for the next time, should there be a next time.  It’s unfortunate, though, that yesterday can still pull you in a thousand different directions to plan and prepare for something that might not occur again. That to me is a chaos of a day!

Jesus on the other hand remains the same!  All that He did in your yesterday is solid, concrete, unchangeable because it was perfect.  If you think about it, because He was in control of your yesterday, every chaotic thing you did, was His plan for your day and you can (and should) take comfort in knowing He allowed your yesterday to be chaotic for your good and for His purpose.

Tomorrow is a mystery

How many of you plan out your tomorrows?  Come on, be honest, raise your hand!  I can tell you I certainly do.  I know things can change and the plan I came up with for my tomorrow can completely derail leaving me out of order, confused and scrambling about what to do next.  But why do we do that?  Why do we plan out a day we don’t have yet?   This is where Jesus remaining the same yes forever should be a resting place for us.  You see, tomorrow is in the future and forever is the future, so if Jesus is the same, yes forever, then our tomorrow is already planned out.  We don’t have to make one iota of a decision.

Below is a song by another of my favorite Christian artists, Casting Crowns, it’s called Already There.  Listen and read the words and envision Jesus remaining the same tomorrow, and forever.

How powerful is that vision?  Right now, Jesus is standing at the end of your life!  Meaning, He has seen your tomorrow.  He knows how it’s going to turn out because He’s already there and He won’t change.  Your tomorrow will be perfect because it is going to go according to His plan and for His purpose for your life.

Today is a gift

(that it certainly is! )  Each today we are given is a new opportunity to glorify our Lord and it begins with new mercies, as it tells us in Lamentations.  We can also take comfort in the knowledge that today already has a path, and that Jesus is walking it with you.  It was a tomorrow, but by the grace of God, He breathed life into you and gave you today.  It should be an easy time to get through, we don’t need to complicate it.

So, let me ask you this…what are you going to do with your gift of today?

Dedication

I dedicate this post to my baby girl who on August 22, 2022, began a new chapter in her life, the College Chapter.  Each day is going to filled with choices, decisions, and mistakes.  You will be pulled in many different directions and things might get overwhelming.  BUT no matter how many changes you make in a day, rest in the assurance that Jesus remains the same.  He is the same today, yesterday, and yes, forever.  There are no surprises with Him, He will never change His love for you, His plan for you or His protection on you.  Take refuge in Him and let Him bring you back down to normalcy.

Keep in mind friends, we are human.  We can’t stay the same, we are constantly changing and things around us are continually changing.

But not Jesus!
